Monarch Ski Area
Monarch Mountain is probably the closest ski are to Colorado Springs and officially started as a ski area in 1939. Although it’s not as large as some of the mega ski resorts, its location, size and affordability can make it a great choice for families with young kids. Monarch has 53 trails, 5 chairlifts and 800 skiable acres.
Monarch offers childcare for children 3 through 6 years old. The Children's Center is a secure, clean, comfortable and fun environment for your little one. The specialized staff is background checked and trained in First Aid and CPR, and will take care of your kids while you’re taking lessons or just skiing/riding at your own pace on the mountain. You can also include ski or snowboard lessons for them and the staff will take care of everything, including the hot chocolate!
Children ages 3-6 always receive a free lift ticket, which is included in every lesson package. If your family wants to stay together while taking a lesson, Monarch’s “Play Together” program could be perfect for you. These lessons are designed for 3 to 10 people, ages 7+, all on the same type of equipment (skis, snowboard or telemark skis), and of similar ability. The program package includes an all-day lift ticket, equipment and helmet rental for each participant, and a single 8x10" color photograph.
If your child is younger and you want to share in their first experience on the snow, Monarch's “Mini & Me” program is designed to introduce children, ages 3-6, to skiing, while their parent or parents receive important safety and coaching tips. The experience can include one or two parents or guardians, and one child.
